Zvezda’s 1/72 IS-2 Soviet Heavy Tank of World War 2, kit no 5011. It is marketed as a snap-fit no glue required kit.
Kit is coming in a side opening box with a very fancy box art on the front:
On the rear of the box there are images of the finished model presented from different angles:
Hull bottom, note copyright 2013 – this is a new tool kit from Zvezda. Nice suspension and rivet detail too:
Parts are on 2 sprues of usual light grey plastic, i have removed the gun barrel part and it’s parts as those parts are the first step of building the kit also to check for the plastic, good news is the barrel is molded as a single piece but the parting lines are quite raised also drilling the muzzle will be upto the modeler because it’s shut.
As for the plastic quality i must say be cautious when removing and cleaning parts because the plastic is on the softer side than that of Revell’s braille scale kits for example. That being said the molding is looking very crisp and is devoid of any sink marks, pin marks or flash in the visible locations, kudos to Zvezda!
Tracks are provided as single lengths per side and are of plastic in black, not vinyl, and are detailed nicely on both sides without any visible marks.
Instruction sheet is in both Russian and English with clear exploded views of 9 steps for building and 1 for decals. Only Humbrol numbers for the color callouts are given:
Decal sheet has a number jungle of 3 rows also the aerial identification stripes are provided for those modelers that don’t want to paint them. Decals have minimal carrier and are in good register:
All in all looks like a solid piece of kit. I bought the kit at around us$10 and it’s nothing but recommended for the price, the level of detail and quality.
Can’t say anything about it’s accuracy since i am no expert.
Can’t say anything about it’s fit neither since i haven’t began building it, but i can’t wait to get started on this one!
